Renjini Haridas -David Vs Goliath(Jagathi)

August 21, 2011

Jagathy Srikumar’s act of sticking his neck out and slamming the Renjini Haridas’ mini-screen gimmick has really crossed the boundaries and it was nothing but a plain gross. It was unwarranted for an actor of Jagadhi’s stature and reputation gettting involved in a trash talk like that in front of a massive audience at the stadium and thousands more watching on tv aroud the globe.Jagathi’s onstage verbal assualt on Ms.Hardidas created a feeding frenzy for the people in and outside the staduim who always wanted to have a go at Ms.Haridas for her adoption of munglish rhetoric and western style outfit in her shows .It was barely an occasion for Jagthi to flex his muscles and lock horn wih Mr.Haridas. Jagadhi should have picked on someone his own size and should have chosen a different platform as well.

It wouldn’t be a flattery to say Renjini Hardihas has been an outsanding anchor in the Malayalm television world who with her sheer hardwork and conviction has carved a niche for herself in the Indian Television world. She has been a cut above the rest of so boring, dumb and montonous genre of modern mallu presenters who lack brain and intuition to bring in any sort of creativity in their acts.Renjini dared to defy the norms bringing life in to the reality TV shows she hosted with her sensible intellect and abundant charisma. She has taken a daunting task of prsenting a host of reality tv shows and stage ceremonies and delivered them admirably.Using English or pursuing a western view cannot be a drawback for a presenter in Kerala as Malayalees increasingly tend to get themselves globalizesd .She has been a vital part of the successful brand ‘idea star singer’ which for the past 6 years have got us tuned in to and taken us to previously unknown form of reality entertainment in Kerala’s mini-screen. She is always full of energy and without any inhibition which help to pep up her shows.A great marvel in her character is her ability to instill in great deal of confidence to the contestants and to reassure them during a set back. She gets excited with their climb and equally get emotional on their fall.Jagathi’s crude remarks will not take the shine off her achievements and a gfted talent that she has to offer us .

There is no denying of Jaghthy’s credential as an actor .He is an incredible actor and the last word in malayalam comedy. He is a living legend and truly a wonder in Indian cinema having acted in nearly 1500 films.Over the years, most of our lives have been made lively by Jaghdi’s comedies and not a single day in our life passes without an opportunity to enjoy his comedy. But being great is not an excuse to say or do things that hurts others. It was absolutely a scandalous behaviour from Jagadhi to say scathing comments about Ms.Haridas and the program she is hosting at such a big ceremony watched all over the world .Jagdhi managed to pull in great crowd support for his outrageous remarks on Ms.Hardis as they booed and jeered at her with the every word he uttered. Sadly Jagathi and those guys represent the last generation of malayalees with parochial attitude who take pleasure in taunting others in public .He talks great deal but his life has been far from ideal. God only knows how many times has has been married and he had even been charged with sexual offence but later went scot free thanks to his money and fame.At one stage he even tarnished the image of the entire malayalam film industry with his remark when he was caught up in sex scandal that there was opportunity within the industry. He seems to be very cocky on his interviews and is full of brags. Jagadhi as an actor is well-received and well respected by malayalees but such gaffe will only help to make a dent in his image and popularity.

Well done Ms.Haridash in shrugging off Jagthi’s criticism and blunted it with a smile carrying on with the job on hand.A ordinary mallu girl would not have stood up to such attack and would have run off the stage in tears.Renjini remained unfazed as she knew it that nothing whatsover happened can thwart her potential as it was only a publicity stunt by a reckless gentleman.

All marks to Renjini for the way she handled the issue and carried on with the show. Hats off to her. She is a girl with excellent spirit and character. I don’t think Jagathi Sreekumar was showing his deepest concern towards Renjini in particular, but the way Malayalam as a language is being treated in supposed to be in the leading Malayalam language Visual Media. It needs to be addressed in such seriousness.
But……….to comment on the popularity of the show, you can get popularity by being vulgar also. It makes no sense to measure quality by popularity. An average malayali who cannot speak or act like Renjini, drools over her and believes that Malayalam is supposed to be spoken in a way which she handles. What a shame to the society and the generation!!! Just because, we are educated in English, we don’t have the right to unsettle the language, in a stage where millions are watching. Asianet, the producers, all are responsible for this selfish act. I am not against commercialism.
But it should be handled with respect. Language is like your Mother, handle her with respect. I am not that old, I am also educated in one of the best business schools in India, and can speak the language better than her even though I lived most of my life outside Kerala.

Asianet being a communicative media in Malayalam, should understand this. They make millions through this, so who cares!!!!

What ever explanation given, not withstanding, it exposes the language in the wrong manner to the generation next!!

Jagathy and Ranjini are in fact the best in their streams..Its a fact that Ranjini’s language is sometimes an “eardrum breaker.” She is in this field for more than 5 years and its hightime for her to improve her language. A lot of North Indian people are able to learn Malayalam, one of the toughest languages in India, very quickly and Ranjini being a malayali, we expect her to do a better justice to our language. Her so called “Manglish” sometimes fills up hatred in my blood. But its a known fact that no one can replace Ranjini as she is indeed the main reason for the success of this program. Remember ISS 2008, she was replaced by another beauty, but the program failed to enjoy the success and it became a success only when she was recalled. This shows she is a hearthrob of ISS viewers. Jagathy is a great actor and he has the right to comment on anyone but ,I think, wat he did on that day wasnt right. If he had to point it out, he could have told her privately or he could have done tht in a lighter manner. I do respect him a lot as a great actor but not as a great man. I do appreciate Ranjini for handling things there, she dint show her attitude thr.She made sure that the scenario was not heating up and she reacted in a daily when she got time. But the fact is Jagathy mentioned everything correctly, that she shud stop judging candidates because that will definitely creat an impact on judgement and she shud stop using manglish, but that was done in a harsh or rather in a insulting way..I strongly believe that she can be a better TV anchor,if she could follow up those comments…All the best Ranjini

I fully disagree with your view on this issue.
What Jagathi has done is he came forward to bell the cat. It was a feeling which all true malayalees all over the world carried in their mind through out all these years. Whatever Renjini has done in the stage was not out of spontaneous behaviour, it was nothing but what the so called modern guys and gals do now a days ha.. hii. foo. It is just a part of the show which comes from your mouth but not from your hearts.

i agree with you completely. The actor by his outrageous comments laid bare the ego of an average malayalee who gets irked when a woman outshines him. Ranjini’s charisma and chaste and mellifluous language are indeed sour grapes for typical malayalees who tries to drag people down just because they cannot rise up to an admirable standard.

Few days ago Asianet aired a movie named “Rakuyilin Raga Sarassil” by Mamooty, & Adoor Bhasy. An old typical Malyalam theme but there were lots of English dialogs, with out malayalam undertiltles. In villages many might not have understood those dialogs.

The modern show like Idea Star Singer helps many to hear and learn many many usages in English. Most of the contestants also speak speak English. This is a music show and not a malayalam class.
